Shearers, Tolarno, River Darling circa 1913

This photograph was taken of Shearers leaving Tolarno, River Darling, NSW circa 1912. It was snapped on a Kodak camera by Edwin J. Brady on his tour of Australia begun in 1912 and unfolding over several years, in order to publish a comprehensive volume entitled ‘Australia Unlimited’. His aim was to present to the world the face of the real Australia. His tour was accomplished via a combination of riding, driving (including a covered wagonette and motor bike down the Murray River), motoring and walking. His insights are of value historically and socially. He quotes in his introduction: " Everywhere – prejudiced I believe by no over-sanguine temperament – I found Wonder, Beauty, unequalled Resource".
